I will never grow tired of hearing about and sometimes even seeing the ways that Adriane can repurpose nothing into something beautiful and special. I NEEDED to read this today and it will serve as a reminder to me that God will redeem everything for His purpose and for good. Wishing nothing but wonderfully new memories and lots and lots of fun for the New Year!!!

Melody,
Hopefully by now you have been alerted by Atlee that your beef is ready. He is good about calling a couple of weeks in advance of the meat being ready. Sorry I didn't reply sooner! For some reason, this post got bogged in the "to be approved" pile. Let me know if you didn't hear from him, but I feel pretty sure you have!

Oh, and I'm definitely going to be making shoofly pie now! I've got the cookbook More with Less and I've seen that recipe in there so many times, looking yummy, but just haven't gotten around to making it yet. I'm not from a Mennonite or Amish background so this wasn't something I knew about as a kid, but I'm about to change that! Thanks for the inspiration.

Have you tried kale chips? Wash the leaves, dry them well, take off the stalks, tear into pieces, then coat with olive oil and bake a few minutes. Don't forget to sprinkle on some kosher salt. My kiddiewinks, ages 3 and 5, devour these.

My hubby is British and so I made him a rhubarb trifle for his birthday last year--it was a hit with him and our friends, too. Pretty yummy. My MIL makes a mean rhubarb-crumble ice cream.

BTW, just now finished your money book! Loved it and will be recommending it.

Just about to finish your money secrets book in a few minutes and noticed you wrote something about having a blog, and lo and behold, here you are (or here I am). I already do a lot of thing you mentioned in the book: buy clothes and household items at thrift/secondhand shops, sell stuff we don't need on Craigslist, purchase some items in bulk. I'm inspired to try bartering, though--fun idea! My MOPS group just had a big swap night that I missed--bummer.

Anyway, just to let you know--I heart celadon as well, and when we lived in Japan and I visited Korea for a few days, I bought myself a little celadon turtle chopsticks holder. I'm not sentimental about stuff anymore after our international moves but I do wish I had kept that darling turtle.

Off to finish your book and my cuppa. :)

When I was younger and first married and had my children, my grandmother taught me how to make mittens out of old sweatshirts.... From the body of the shirt measure the child's hand and sew them together and then cut of the cuff from the sweatshirt and sew it on to the mitten for the cuff... Myself, my grandmother and some friend's of ours, especially this one lady friend used to make them all the time for their children and also for some of her grandchildren and greatgrand children who were in preschool and Kindergaten... They are very easy to make....

Amazing co-incidence! Today, before I read this, I was sewing up some dress gloves out of vintage sweaters! Will send pics. LOVE the jean blanket... also very do-able. Up-cycling old sweaters into pillows sure tweaks that creative streak. This is all just too much fun. Love the topic!
